Description

The Environment Agency has a requirement for high quality land height data for a wide range of uses, including flood mapping and modelling. This is obtained through the use of LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology. LIDAR data are delivered through a planned annual National Programme which allows prioritisation of data requirements and efficient data capture through pre-programmed flights. In addition, the Agency supplies all LIDAR data to the Defra funded annual National Coastal Monitoring Programme. Other LIDAR data capture supports the collaborative agreement with Natural England on Operational Spatial monitoring. In recent years the data have also been used in incident response and recovery as comparison against historical data allowing measurement of change which is used for coastal environments and for waste sites. The outcome required for this Contract is the purchase of an upgrade to both of the Environment Agency LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) instruments. This upgrade will improve efficiency and data quality and will result in a carbon reduction. This upgrade includes a three year support package from the manufacturer.
