Description
The play area at Thirlmere Drive, Dronfield is located adjacent to the highway, between the hammerhead and an undesignated footpath which runs from a nearby wooded area to the north of the play area. The play area is currently unfenced, and the footpath to the north is a dog walking route, resulting in dogs being walked across the play area. To the east of the existing play area is a banked area currently planted with shrubs and trees, with the footpath front 46 to 52 Thirlmere Drive being set higher than the play area. To the west of the play area is a banked area which drops away towards trees on the perimeter. The current play equipment was installed circa 1999, and is approaching the end of its life expectancy. The current equipment, comprising of a pirouette spinner, 1 bay cradle seat swings, slide, 1 bay flat seat swings and junior multi unit, offers limited play value. The Council have recently undertaken a public consultation with regards the play area, following on from which the Council are seeking quotations for renewing the play area, with the new provision to include equipment encouraging active play, sensory activities, inclusive equipment/activities, equipment encouraging imaginative play, and for the play area to be surrounded by fencing. The responses from the consultation can be made available to the Supplier on request. Consideration will need to be given to walkers accessing/egressing the pathway to the north of the site.
