Description

2994/517/CW/DPG/21 Hyperspectral Imaging System The University of Sheffield wishes to invite tenders for a Hyperspectral Imaging System on behalf of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, Design and Prototyping Group at Catcliffe, South Yorkshire. Scope of Requirement Funding is in place for the AMRC to develop a material analysis research platform to showcase the latest technology to the industry in an integrated solution. A key enabling technology in advanced automation is intelligent machine vision systems capable of identifying material characteristics for conformance, sorting and analysis. Material sorting through noncontact vision-based identification will form a critical part of this demonstrator to highlight a viable way of separating materials to achieve significantly higher purity rates of recycled material than conventional sorting systems. Hyperspectral imaging systems utilising medium-wave infrared (MWIR) can acquire accurate information about the composition of an object that cannot be obtained using conventional vision systems. A wide range of materials have a unique signature in the MWIR spectral range. This offers the ability to identify and analyse objects based on their chemical composition. Hyperspectral imaging represents the highest accuracy of material detection currently available and has been identified to fulfil the requirements of the demonstrator. The purchase of the technology is aligned with the AMRC strategy to develop technology to support the Circular Economy and keep at the forefront of sustainable technology innovation within the manufacturing sector. Tender Process and Documentation: This procurement is an open procedure conducted in accordance with the Public Contracts Regulations 2015
