Description
The Community Health Champions model will build on the strengths, skills and knowledge of local communities, by recruiting local people as volunteers and/or employees to tackle inequalities in areas of high deprivation to improve the health and wellbeing of local residents and address local issues of concern. We are looking to commission a host organisation to manage the programme, with an emphasis on them forming a network of delivery partners who have demonstrated skill and knowledge of the varying needs of the communities in Waltham Forest. The host organisation will need to fit the following criteria: • A community-based organisation, with established social and peer networks in the borough of Waltham Forest • Demonstrated ability to reach all members of a community - not limited to a specific interest, age, or ethnic group • Demonstrated experience of recruiting, supporting, training and managing volunteers • Located within the Borough, or have a high profile and good reputation within the Borough with the communities where the project will be based, and the ability to establish an office/hub within the area. The Community Health Champions will be recruited and trained by the host organisation and supported by the delivery partners to undertake the following activities: • Information dissemination: relaying Covid safe messages, promoting clear and transparent vaccine information and supporting access to vaccinations, raising awareness of health and wellbeing services, and connecting and supporting local activities and breaking down barriers to isolation where appropriate. • Organising low level activities: in neighbourhoods where they don't exist, based on broad health and wellbeing priorities communicated by local residents in areas of high deprivation. • Insight gathering: on health and wellbeing issues to help the Authority and partners understand deep-rooted attitudes, behaviors and perceptions. These activities will engage local residents in the project and highlight priority areas for action in each location.
