Coventry City Council is working with various strategic stakeholders across the West Midlands to deliver an innovative and exciting project which aims to bring together the latest innovation in the automotive sector and apply them to the light rail sector. The objective is to develop an affordable tram system, using Very Light Rail technologies, that is capable of being successfully deployed in Coventry before being expanded throughout the UK to other similar sized locations and then internationally. This will be achieved by developing lightweight and low-cost vehicles and trackform alongside the CVLR first route.

Total Quantity or Scope

This Tender Opportunity is to progress the design of the first route from its current position at the end of Stage 1, through to the end of a Public Inquiry which is Stage 5. It involves work in a number of different disciplines, which broadly cover the Concept Design and Statutory Processes, Operations and Maintenance (O&M), BIM, and Low Volume Manufacturing (LVM) of track and vehicles, and the contract documents will reflect this by being broadly laid out in these streams. Whilst it is considered beneficial to keep the same team in place for this period, Call-Offs have been introduced to allow CCC to stop works at various points, due to funding or any other issues.
