Description

Active Travel Fund Station Road, Swindon. Swindon Borough Council invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced service providers for the provision of a two way cycle lane on Station Road, Swindon. Project Description Station Road is situated to the north west of the town centre and is a key strategic route for access to the train station. To the west, is a grade 2 listed wall which is part of Swindons railway history, to the east are business premises which are predominantly office blocks and a public house. The main carriageway has a one way double lane running southwest to northeast, with pedestrian ways either side. This scheme will remove one of the running lanes and replace it with a two way cycle lane at a split level between the carriageway and footway. The cycle lane has been designed to be Local Transport Note (LTN) 1/20 compliant. Primarily funded by the Government's Active Travel Fund, there is a strict spending deadline of the end of March 2022, it is recognised that some works are likely to continue into April 2022, which may be funded from additional revenue sources. Works will include, but are not limited to, adjustment of kerb lines, footway resurfacing, and construction of cycle lane, carriageway resurfacing and installation of traffic signals. Full details are included in the pre-construction information at Appendix I. As Station Road is a key strategic route, traffic management will be a vital aspect of this tender and will be managed by the Principal Contractor. Swindon Borough Council's Streetworks Team are fully briefed on this scheme and have already been made aware of the scheme dates in preparation. It is strongly recommended that any Tenderer conducts a site visit prior to tendering for these works. Full details relating to the Works are provided in the tender documents.
