Description
This quantitative research project aims to understand the impact of the pandemic on the lifestyles, physical and mental health of those living across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (CIoS). For example, it is thought that the pandemic has resulted in an increase in the number of people suffering from anxiety and/or depression. There have also been many physical health impacts with an estimated 1 in 5 people who had been infected with COVID-19 experiencing persistent ill health following the acute phase of infection. In order to inform future services, this cross-sectional study is needed to understand the impact of the pandemic, COVID-19 and long-covid on those living across CIoS. This includes both the physical and mental health impacts of the pandemic, as well as wider issues such as those associated with social isolation and other socio-economic impacts, including those who have been adversely affected and individuals who have long-covid (e.g. loss of education, training and employment). Understanding the short and long-term impacts of the pandemic across communities, will be achieved by undertaking a representative sample of those living across CIoS to find out about the participant characteristics, their health and wellbeing, as well as information about where they live and other wider determinants of health. The survey data will be combined with another survey that the Public Health team are undertaking to help inform current and future service provision. This means that the chosen sampling methodology must use the same questionnaire and data collection detailed in this specification and exclude residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 (this will involve working with the Public Health team to determine the postcode sample). This combined approach is necessary to maximise the impact of this project.
