Description

HV&LV Cable Replacement (BPRN: 1157) - OBC Option 4 (Full Replacement of all HV and LV Cables, Install New Substation and re-configure LV Infrastructure); EIB approval 11/09/2012. Although recent developments have included the installation of a new electrical generator and supporting switchgear, large parts of the electrical infrastructure are reliant on cabling and equipment which forms part of the original installation and is believed to be circa 30/40 years old. The project was initiated because the failure of the HV supply cable to Workshop Substation led to further concerns not only with the integrity of this HVs supply but also with parts of the LV site-wide infrastructure which comprise of cabling of a similar age and construction. It is essential that the deteriorated HV & LV cabling is replaced to maintain a high integrity supply across the site and to the Workshops, which are essential to the Establishment's activity programme. Install Catch Pit & Associated Works (BPRN: 1138) - OBC Option 4 (Install Catchment Pit & Auto Screening System outside the Prison Boundary plus Replacement of Macerator with Bypass at Atherton Unit (E & F Wings)); EIB approval of Option 4 16/01/2020. There are major issues and risks relating to the existing sewerage system at HMP Long Lartin, concerning waste material and debris in the Establishment's foul sewerage flows being discharged into the public / STWA sewerage network and causing significant damage to assets. The fundamental business need is to ensure the continued operations and security of residential capacity of the Establishment, by ensuring the sewerage system is fit for purpose and can perform effectively under normal operating conditions, additionally eliminating the operational, financial and reputational risks related to Severn Trent Water Authority issuing fines on a six-monthly basis and/or pursuing legal prosecution at any time against HMP Long Lartin.
