Description

Local Authorities are required to undertake annual skid resistance (Grip Tester) surveys. As a minimum, this should be undertaken on A-Roads, with the results submitted to the Department for Transport (DfT).The results help identify roads requiring skid resistance improvements, to reduce the risk of skidding related incidents. Currently, some authorities also include B and C roads to assist with the prioritisation of the Highways maintenance programme. The purpose of this tender is to appoint a contractor to undertake skid resistance (Grip Tester) surveys on behalf of the West Midlands Authorities across their highway network. This is to be carried out in accordance with requirements of Highway Design Note CS228 in the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.

Total Quantity or Scope

Note CS228 in the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.These surveys will assist Councils, to ensure road surfaces provide adequate skid resistance to drivers during wet conditions, as well as providing data to assist where road maintenance needs to be targeted, to reduce related incidents. Additional information: This framework is available to the following West Midlands Authorities:Birmingham City Council UKG31, Coventry City Council UKG33, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council UKG36, Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council UKG37, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council UKG32, Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council UKG38 and Wolverhampton City Council UKG39
