This procurement was under taken on behalf of Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee (WHSSC) for the provision of Proton Beam Therapy at the Rutherford Cancer Centre in Newport.

Total Quantity or Scope

This procurement was undertaken on behalf of Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee (WHSSC) for the provison of Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) at the Rutherford Cancer Centre (RCC) in Newport. Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee (WHSSC) seek to commission Proton Beam Therapy services for adult patients from South Wales so that they may receive cancer treatment closer to home. Such an approach will have patient and cost benefits. The basic requirement is for a range of Proton Beam Treatments as dictated by WHSSC as commissioners of the service in Wales. Prices will be fixed for the duration of the agreement from 9th April 2021 to 8th April 2022.

Legal Justification

Though this was a direct award, due to no other competition with the UK, a robust procurement process was undertaken with the bidder completing a PQQ, technical and commercial stage as well as vigorous quality checks undertaken at the facility.
