Description
This is an advance notice of RWM's intention to compete work to relocate a number of samples from the RWM Specimen Store, located on the Magnox Harwell site, to a new location.
Total Quantity or Scope
INTRODUCTION RWM holds samples and exhibits to support its technical work and its communications and stakeholder engagement work. These samples range from small-scale samples up to full-size waste containers. None of the samples contain radioactive material. The samples are presently stored in a warehouse on the Magnox site at Harwell. As part of on-going Magnox decommissioning work this warehouse will soon become unavailable to RWM. As such, an alternative storage solution is required for RWMs' samples and the current store must be vacated. RWM have reviewed the inventory of samples and have identified a significant proportion of samples that are no longer required and could be disposed of. As such, there is a need to identify disposal routes for some of the samples, and then dispose of them. CURRENT SITUATION • A contract technical specification (CTS) is currently in development and is expected to be issued in the near future. • The work is expected to involve some or all the following: o Identification and provision of a suitable alternative store, with management for several years (2-5 years) o Transport of samples for retention to that store o Dispose of unwanted samples (recycled where practicable) • The current specimen store is intended to be vacated by the end of June 2022 to enable decommissioning activities to be undertaken. • The inventory has been reviewed and over half of the samples have been assigned for disposal. • The remaining samples require an alternative storage solution. • There are approximately 100 pallets of samples for disposal, all can be moved for transport using a forklift truck capable of lifting 2 tonnes. • There are approximately 30 pallets of samples to be relocated that can be moved for transport using a forklift truck capable of lifting 2 tonnes. • In addition, there are some exceptional samples that will require special consideration in order to successfully relocate them. This is due to their greater mass or size. o 4m box on transport flat - Approx. 4.0 x 2.4 x 2.2 m high box, 6.1 x 2.4 x 0.6 m high transport flat Approx. 22 tonnes box and 2 tonnes transport flat. o 2m box - Approx. 2.4 x 2.2 x 2.2 m high box Approx. 3 tonnes. o 3m3 box, sectioned vertically between opposite corners - Approx. 1.7 x 1.7 x 1.2 m high sectioned box Approx. 4 tonnes. o Copper canister section - Approx. 1.0 x 1.0 x 0.8 m high Approx. 3 tonnes. OUR AIMS - WHAT WE WANT TO ACHIEVE • A suitable alternative store for the samples to be relocated to be identified • The samples for retention to be moved to the alternative store • The samples for disposal to be disposed of, through recycling route where practicable • The current store to be completely vacated • The new storage and samples to be managed for several years (2-5 years) We are looking to understand if there are suppliers in the market that can meet the specific requirements of this work. To be able to do this - we require interested suppliers to express an interest by sending an email to aisha.adekunlelawal@nuclearwasteservices.uk
