Description

As part of the autumn budget 2020, the Environment Agency have been allocated £2.5m capital funding to work with partners to deliver an update to the National Coastal Erosion Risk Map (NCERM) across England by 2023. This requirement emerges directly from the Environment Agency's Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy 2020 (Strategic Objective A, Measure A.1), which seeks to strengthen the evidence base for coastal adaptation investments and decisions into the future. The update to NCERM complements the dependent project to refresh the 20 Shoreline Management Plans (SMPs) across England, and other similar EA/DEFRA projects seeking to update flood and coastal erosion risk mapping, modelling and assessment. Combined, all of this activity will provide an essential body of data and evidence to underpin future adaptation and planning investment decisions of relevant coastal risk management authorities (RMAs).
