Description
Improving the health and welfare of farmed livestock to support the development of a vibrant farming industry in Wales is a long-standing priority of the Welsh Government and the Animal Health and Welfare Framework Group. The Welsh Government wishes to support the sheep sector and veterinary surgeons to effectively control and eradicate Sheep Scab, recognising that long-term responsibility for reducing and eliminating the threat posed by the disease to the industry.
Total Quantity or Scope
The All-Wales Sheep Scab Eradication Programme aims to significantly reduce sheep scab outbreaks in Wales by improving biosecurity within the Welsh sheep sector by gaining an accurate understanding of the incidence and prevalence of sheep scab in Wales, by designing, delivering, and measuring actions to stop the spread of sheep scab on and off farms and by promoting accurate and timely diagnosis of the disease when it occurs, so that treatment is appropriate, successful, sustainable and safe.
