Description

The three Mirrlees Blackstone engines (ESL16 twin bank engine) installed at Thames Barrier are fast approaching their anticipated three- quarter life survey . The following inspections and component overhaul are proposed , in order to enable the engines to be suitable for a further 10-15-year period. 1. Nodal Damper Coupling (NDC) fluid level check 2. Gearbox bearing and final alignment verification 3. Cylinder Liner Nose O-ring Renewal 4. Liner deglazing and Piston Ring Pack replacement 5. Cylinder Head Decarbonising and Pressure Test 6. Jacket Water Pump. 7. Standard Service Procedures Within procedures 1 - 6 carry out standard service work to include: - Recalibration of fuel injectors (does not include nozzle replacement) - Pressure testing of internal fuel system - Renewal of lube oil filter elements (engine) - Renewal of lube oil filter elements (gearbox) - Renewal of fuel filter elements - Re-setting of exhaust valve tappet clearances - Visual Inspection of internal pipework - Visual Inspection of camshaft assembly and drive gear train - Visual Inspect all coolers and heat exchangers for external leakages - Operational check and adjustment of mechanical overspeed - Operational check and adjustment of decompression system - Renewal of all crankcase and camshaft door joints - Check and record crankshaft deflections - Measure and record crankshaft end float - Operational check and adjustment of internal and external fuel rack linkage - Operational check of engine and gearbox lube oil pre-prime system 8. Recalibration of on engine sensors 9. Re-commissioning / load test

Other Information

The engineer/s working on the project must have in-depth knowledge of ESL 16 twin bank engines, with proven evidence of experience. The successful supplier will provide spares when required, within a reasonable lead time. The preferred supplier must be CTC (counter terrorist check) cleared prior to contract award.
