Description

3.1 Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs) were established in 2011 under Section 9 of the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004. This places a duty on local areas to consider undertaking a Domestic Homicide Review where a homicide meets the criteria set out in the legislation. This duty is undertaken by the relevant Community Safety Partnership (CSP) who must establish a review panel comprising of representatives from statutory agencies and specialist services. 3.2 The purpose of a DHR is to establish what lessons are to be learned from the domestic homicide regarding the way in which local professionals and organisations work individually and together to safeguard victims. By clearly identifying the lessons learned and setting out a plan for action to address areas for improvement and embed best practice, the DHR process helps to improve the response to domestic abuse and prevent future homicides.
