Description

Living Streets currently provides a service called Walk to School whereby schools sign up to participate in assemblies and events They are provided with information and incentives to encourage more children and their carers to leave the car at home and walk to school. For those who need to travel by car because they live too far away they are encouraged to Park and Stride for at least 10 mins on their journey to school. The methods by which the children have travelled to school are recorded on a digital travel tracker each day. This monitoring information is recorded and can be accessed by LCC to help with planning. Living Streets has also worked with Secondary Schools, Further Education Colleges and the Universities to encourage students to walk more. \r \r Central Government gave very short notice for ending their direct contract with Living Streets to deliver this service in Leicester and various local authority areas around the country. LCC has benefitted from this work since 2012 and would like to continue to work with Living Streets to provide this service in our schools. Living Streets are the only supplier who could start this contract at 1st April 2021 and continue the work they have been doing. Their staff have built up good relationships with schools in Leicester and most schools are happy to use the resources and monitoring tools that they supply. The unique travel tracker monitoring results are used by the City Council for evidence about travel in an area and when we seek funding for other projects.\r \r Living Streets were previously contracted to supply this service in Leicester by the Department for Transport (DfT). The DfT have ended their direct contract with Living Streets but have provided the funding for the work directly to LCC and other authorities as part of the Capability Fund so that LCC can continue to fund this service provision.\r LA's who receive this funding are encouraged to work with Living Streets to deliver the service.
