Description
Local bus operator, High Peak Buses has informed the Council of its intention to withdraw its Buxton Town service 185 that runs between Burlow and the Fairfield Estate via Buxton and Harpur Hill with effect from 11 December 2022. The 185 is a commercial service and its withdrawal will impact over 21,272 passenger journeys per year. High Peak Buses has cited commercial viability as the prime reason for the withdrawal, however, driver shortages and retentions have also contributed to the operational difficulties. A local Councillor has expressed a disappointment over the prospect of the 185 being withdrawn and explained that there will be missed opportunities along the route to serve new residential areas. The public are dissatisfied by the loss and have explained the importance of retaining this travel link. The Council is certain that the withdrawal of the 185 service will have a negative impact on the communities it serves. For instance, under the proposals, the Fairfield Estate, an area of deprivation, will be left without a bus service and sufficient access to much needed local amenities such as shops and healthcare.
