Description
The existing contract for kennelling stray dogs under the care of Medway Council is due to expire in May 2023. We are seeking local businesses that would like the opportunity to work with Medway Council to assist in providing the necessary kennelling and care for the dogs under our responsibility. Medway Council are looking for the provision of kennelling for up to 12 kennels. Medway Council Animal Warden Service is responsible for the collection of stray dogs within the borough. The service operates Monday to Friday 9:00 to 17:00 and officers work on an on call basis Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays 9:00 to 17:00. The Animal Warden carries a scanning device to identify dogs fitted with a microchip. If the address of the owner is identified, the Animal Warden will telephone the registered details to advise that the dog has been seized by the Council. If possible, the dog will be returned to the owner should they be in the vicinity, if this is not possible or the dog is being allowed to repeatedly stray it will be transported to the Council's contracted kennels. Dogs are boarded for a minimum of 7 days unless claimed by the owner. Medway Council are in agreement with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home (BDCH) under their Stray Dog Support Programme that after 7 days, all unclaimed strays are relinquished to the charity. Dogs will be transported to BDCH as soon as possible dependant on a case by case basis.
