Description
Harrow has 22 wards and approx. 261,000 residents according to 2021 census information. We are responsible for maintaining around 300,000 trees within the public realm. Highway Trees 20,000 on 457 km Parks & Open Space Trees: 60,000 within 276 hectares Housing Estate Trees 3,000 on 50 Estates 34 No Allotments c500 10 Cemeteries c250 The remaining stock is spread throughout 4 Countryside sites of 102 hectares and 9 woodlands totaling 28 hectares Background The council aims to inspect all highway trees every 3 years and parks trees every 5 years. We aim to plant a minimum of 250 trees each year (subject to budget). The contract will also cover reactive and emergency works to Housing Estate trees. The appointed contractor/s will need the resource to provide 24/7 emergency response cover including for storm events. We are currently considering how to approach the market to ensure we can deliver the above works to offer the best possible outcomes for our residents. To assist us with developing the correct tender specification we would welcome your feedback on a delivery approach.
Total Quantity or Scope
Harrow Council is seeking to engage with the market and would like to invite suitably qualified contractors to a market engagement event which will take place over Microsoft Teams on the 18 May 2023 at 14:00. To express interest please email David Hayes, Procurement Business Partner, David.hayes@harrow.gov.uk The objective of the event is to get a better understanding of the following: • Gather market intelligence on the type, location and capabilities of companies in the market • Seek feedback from companies to inform development of a tender exercise that will be well received by the marketplace maximising participation • Answer questions interested companies may have regarding the required work and the tender process • Provide practical advice to interested companies on local government tendering to support submission of tender • Breakdown barriers to entry for locally based SME companies After the event the Council will publish a questionnaire with a view to gaining further feedback to inform the tender exercise.
