Description

NGN is extending a contract for an existing satellite communications system with Arqiva to provide bandwidth and downlinks to their datacentre (control centre) where data is routed via appropriate systems to NGN control room sites.

Total Quantity or Scope

NGN will be extending the current agreement for 2 years. The supplier provides a satellite communications system with Arqiva to provide bandwidth and downlinks to their datacentre (control centre) where data is routed via appropriate systems to NGN control room sites.

Legal Justification

There is a lot of uncertainty around longer-term technology for communications, with numerous applications coming to end of life. With all this uncertainty NGN would like to an extend with Arqiva to give time for this new technology to further develop and be tested in NGN, before making a long term decision on our communications strategy for GD3. Once a longer term strategy has been decided suppliers will be given a fair opportunity to bid for the work.
