Description
Under UK legislation, UXO clearance at sea requires a marine licence. Applications are mostly received from renewable developments due to the large footprints of these projects. UXO licence applications are separate from the broader wind farm project application and are usually applied for after consent for the wind farm has been granted. There is currently considerable over estimation of the required number of detonations in applications the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) receives (as opposed to other regulators who receive targeted applications for UXO clearance) and uncertainty regarding the types or size of UXOs present.
