There are a number of ways that Natural England (NE) could both benefit from and utilize this work for; IUCN red list assessments are one of the 25 Year Environment Plan (25YEP) indicators under D5 (Conservation status of our native species), potentially feed into sustainable fisheries works (specifically feed into the fisheries ecosystem assessments), act as proxy assessments for non-pressured stocks, help inform Good Environmental Status (GES) assessments, determine species in need of fisheries management plans as well as aid prioritizing targeted species recovery spend. It is hoped that future work pertaining to regular assessments can be undertaken by contractors. To this end, specific objective hoped to be realized through this work are to:- - Gather and clean data for a selection of GB marine fish species, identify data gaps for species; determine its usefulness for conducting red list assessments in accordance with IUCN red listing methodologies and approaches. - Apply this data by drafting national level IUCN red list assessments for a subset of species from a particular taxa.
