Description

The Science and Industry Museum in Manchester (SIM) is looking for an exhibition design company to work with us on the 3D, 2D, (and optional interactive and AV) design for our permanent gallery, Power Hall: The Law Family Gallery. This project requires a creative, multi-disciplinary studio - with demonstrable track record of delivering exhibitions, permanent galleries, or visitor attractions. In summer 2024, after being closed for over five years, we will re-open this much-loved space, an iconic living gallery which showcases Europe's largest collection of 19th and early 20th century steam engines. The museum's Power Hall is one of the most significant industrial heritage galleries in the country. It is a Manchester institution - home to a stunning collection of historic working engines that, a century ago, made the city the economic powerhouse of the world. The interpretation is part of a larger £17 million project to restore and repair the building and begin the decarbonisation of the museum site. We will be introducing new interpretation and narratives into the gallery alongside innovative opportunities to engage our target audience. Working alongside an established Design Team for the base build, this tender pack sets the requirements for a design practice to work with the museum team and a range of community partners to realise our creative interpretative ambitions. This is an exciting opportunity to work with us to reopen the Power Hall and bring back to life the home of engine-driven ideas - a place that has inspired both engineers and scientists, and where the term 'Northern Powerhouse' was first coined.
