Description

VisitBritain and VisitEngland are procuring a study into the economic and wider value of tourism. These are being tendered as separate Lots. Agencies are able to bid for either Lot separately, or both. Agencies should specify which Lot they are bidding for and, if both, submit proposals and prices separately. VisitEngland is adopting a regenerative tourism strategy, and our vision is positive transformation for people and places. Activities focuses on 4 key pathways: PEOPLE (Visitors and Communities), PLACE (Nature, Net Zero and Responsible use of resources), PARTNERSHIP (Collaboration and Governance) and PROSPERITY (Jobs, Livelihoods and Green Growth. This project will play an important role in feeding into the implementation of this strategy Lot 1: Economic value of tourism. Quantifying the size and impact of the tourism economy is vital to building an understanding of tourism. VisitBritain released a report in 2012, available here (PDF), which detailed the economic contribution of the tourism economy in the UK. Our requirements for this tender will include updating some of the metrics in that report and we recommend all bidders consult that report to understand the background and requirements. We are seeking a shorter, more streamlined report with less modelling and analysis this time, although with a greater level of local detail.

Other Information

Lot 2: Wider impact of tourism. Whilst tourism is widely perceived as adding economic value, in this second Lot BTA would like to explore and understand the wider value of tourism in Britain/England. It is important to recognise that tourism has a value above and beyond the monetary value to the economy. Therefore, BTA is strongly interested in exploring how the tourism sector impacts more widely on people, communities, and the environment in Britain/England.
