Description
Kirklees Council is looking into a potential procurement option to put in place future contractual arrangements for suitably qualified and experienced organisations to deliver the Huddersfield District Energy Network (HDEN). Kirklees Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019. This recognised the challenges of a changing climate facing the area. In response, the Council has adopted an over-arching target for achieving 'net-zero' carbon emissions for the district by 2038 and intends to develop the HDEN. The network will help to significantly reduce the carbon emissions associated with the district's largest town in line with local, regional and national targets and contribute to achieving the Council's own strategic goals. An agreement with the Green Heat Network Fund is in place following a successful application for commercialisation and construction funding.
