Description

National Highways owns and maintains a variety of technology-led traffic enforcements assets on the SRN. These assets are part of important measures to influence driver compliance and improve safety. Examples include: - Highways Agency Digital Enforcement Compliance System (HADECS) - Temporary Automatic Speed Camera System (TASCAR). Our assets are deployed across all regions of our network which requires extensive partnership working with all Policing regions. The complex technical nature of this field and the large number of enforcement stakeholders means that National Highways has a requirement for specialist technical guidance and support. National Highways - working with our approved enforcement technology suppliers - is responsible for the development, installation, calibration and ongoing maintenance of these assets. National Highways also provides a financial contribution to Police forces to support the day-to-day enforcement function. This is provided by the Operations Directorate and delivered by the Regional Enforcement Coordinator role. Some functions in the enforcement area are overseen by the Compliance Team in the Road Safety Division of Safety Engineering and Standards Directorate. The Compliance Team houses the National and Deputy National Enforcement Coordinator roles. The role of the Compliance Team - and by association this commission - is to ensure National Highways can realise the largest possible safety outcomes and value for money from our technology-led enforcement. This in part is achieved via the development of Policies, Standards, and Guidance, but also includes the commissioning of research projects to inform the work of the Team and our internal and external stakeholders.
