NHS Highland requires a GP Medical Cover within Out of Hours service (and Minor Injuries Unit - MIU) within Nairn & Ardersier. Full service specification indicates needs for one Duty Doctor between the following hours – Monday to Saturday - 18.00 – 08.00 = 5 x 14 hours Saturday and Sunday – 08.00 – 08.00 = 2 x 24 hours Public Holidays 24 hour provision as determined by the Authority each year.

This is a Voluntary Ex Ante Transparency (VEAT) Notice to indicate that NHS Highland intend to Direct Award a Contract for the Provision of GP Medical Cover within Out of Hours service (and Minor Injuries Unit - MIU) within Nairn & Ardersier. The Contract is expected to be in place for 12 months with an option to extend for a further up to 36 months to ensure continuity of this essential service.

Legal Justification

Nairn Health Care Group are currently contracted to deliver this service to the population of Nairn and Ardersier, and as the sole practice within the Nairn area (following a merger in 2012) they are the only practice that can deliver this service. Nairn Health Care Group have delivered this service in the area for over 15 years with no concerns regarding service delivery. They are based within the Hospital, meaning they can deliver the service with no operational/organisational change. A tender exercise was undertaken in 2023, resulting in a single submission from Nairn Health Care Group. This further evidences the rationale for proceeding with the VEAT (Voluntary Ex-Ante Transparency) process.
