Description

The M60 River Irk Bridge is a single-span, simply supported underbridge that carries the dual three-lane M60 Motorway and junction 19 slip roads over the River Irk and a riverside footpath. The deck consists of rolled steel beams, acting compositely with in-situ reinforced concrete slab. The deck is split into two halves, separated by a longitudinal joint in the central reserve. It is fixed at the west abutment and free at the east abutment. The structure was commissioned in 1996 and has a design capacity of HA + 45HB. During a previous resurfacing scheme over the bridge, the road planer damaged the deck waterproofing. According to the Aone+ waterproofing inspection report of 2010, the damage is in lane 3 in the anticlockwise direction, near the elastomeric joint on the east side of the bridge. The report also mentions that Volker Laser repaired the small, damaged areas however, the quality of repair is not sufficient as a long-term solution. There is no assurance of 150mm overlap between the existing waterproofing and waterproofing patch repair. Therefore, a long-term waterproofing solution is required on anticlockwise carriageway from stringcourse to stringcourse. Construction ECI was undertaken FY24/25 which included site surveys and agreement of works methodology and programme. The detailed design of the scheme has been completed by WSP
